After Duke opened its season with a 118-84 win over Kentucky (ranked 2nd in the AP Poll at the time), we were curious when the last time was that a team had scored that many points on a team ranked so high. Our Matchup Finder tool allows you to search through results for all games between D-I opponents back to 1949-50 and includes rankings, but we realized you could sort by Margin of Victory, but not by Points Scored or Points Allowed. They've been playing college basketball for well over 100 years. And yet only eight men in the history of major men's college basketball have managed to score 3,000 career points: Pete Maravich, Freeman Williams, Lionel Simmons, Alphonso Ford, Doug McDermott, Harry Kelly, Keydren Clark and Hersey Hawkins. Notably, none of these players joined the 3,000-pt club in the same season.

In the 2018-19 season, we could see membership in this club jump from eight to 10 as Campbell's Chris Clemons and South Dakota State's Mike Daum seem poised to become the first pair of players in NCAA history to join the 3,000-point club in the same season. Clemons, a 5'9" high-flyer, and Daum, a 6'9" double-double machine, have few things in common in style of play, but they each enter their senior seasons with identical career totals of 2,232 points. Kenny Jackelen has joined Sports Reference as a web developer. Kenny will be working on our baseball site and elsewhere. He brings a long history of software development to Sports Reference. He previously worked as a software developer at Epic, and lives with his family in Minnesota where he cheers on the Twins and will be leading the Joe Mauer for Hall of Fame election bandwagon. This brings us to eleven full-time employees. We don't have any open positions at this moment, but any future opportunities will be advertised both here and on social media accounts.

On Basketball-Reference, we have a feature that shows players' peak rankings in the Recruiting Services Consensus Index (RSCI) back to the high school class of 1998. We have now gone ahead and added this feature to our College Basketball Reference site as well. This will be available in a yearly format in the Awards section, and they will also appear where applicable on player pages under their bio section. Team pages will display RSCI rankings in the roster section so it's easier to see which teams had more highly-touted prospects to work with.

To recap, the RSCI service is based on gathering several national recruiting lists and calculating a consensus ranking from there. The rankings found on Basketball-Reference and College Basketball Reference are the final rankings for each year. If you want more information on how the process works, as well as additional data like in-season rankings (fall, pre-summer, etc.), you can refer to RSCIhoops.com.

At the Baseball Gauge, he's done a great deal to promote Negro League History, the History of Ballparks, and also the comparison of various sabermetric uber-stats. We've made lots of additions to the player data on College Basketball Reference in recent years. In an effort to make it a little more clear what data we have and what data we don't have, we've made this coverage map back to 1947-48.

Our rosters are essentially complete back to 1992-93, and our coverage of box score stats is also nearly complete back to that year (aside from minutes played, turnovers, personal fouls and offensive/defensive rebounds).

For seasons before 1992-93, it's important to note that our rosters are not 100% complete. It was NCAA practice for many years to combine the stats for non-rotation players on team stat sheets under the label "Others." So for many teams we have stats for the eight, nine, ten, etc. players who received significant playing time, but not for the players with negligible playing time. Additionally, we're missing 621 school seasons completely (mostly in the 40s and 50s). So when we say we have points for 98.8% of players in 1947-48, that means we have points for 98.8% of the players in our database for that season (which excludes players lumped in as "Others" or players on teams we are completely missing).

We have made a huge update to our player class data on College Basketball Reference. Previously, we had this data more or less complete back to 1992-93, and fairly spotty for previous seasons. However, we realized that for players for whom we have four seasons of data who played during years with freshman eligibility that we could infer what their freshman, sophomore, junior and senior seasons were. Likewise, we could do the same for players with three years of data during the years freshmen were ineligible to play varsity. So we have now identified freshman, sophomore, junior and senior seasons for 13,842 additional players in our database.
