Podcast: all-80s offense
Chase's recent series on all-decade teams has been so fun that we decided to podcast the all-80s team. This episode, we do the offense. Chase will have a full writeup posted tomorrow.
Listen here, subscribe here if you know how, and read this if you don’t. It’s free, of course.

This was your best podcast to date! Congratulations! I absolutely loved the format and the interplay between the "gut feel" and "scientific analysis". I look forward to more of these type of podcasts - you can use them as your go-to play when you can't brainstorm of another subject (looking forward to the 90s).
PS
The preceding podcast was not my favorite unfortunately because of the volume of players. I prefer to have a smaller number of players and more back story during the trivia-casts. After all, I can look up who was on two teams, two probowls but I can't look up the context in which these players were unique (a la your previous trivia-casts).
You guys are awesome.
seconded! I'm really looking forward to the 90's where i have a small chance of remembering the players!
I really only paid attention to two teams back then and only in the late 80s, but I was happy to hear the only two guards I could name from that era both mentioned
Incidentally, with the throwbacks this year, the Oilers will roll once more

Somehow I doubt I'll be seeing them playing the run-n-shoot though
Just some thoughts about "throwbacks" (now that MattieShoes got me thinking about it)....
There have been 2 trends in NFL uniforms that I really don't like: throwback uniforms and modern colorization of uniforms.
Since 1994, the NFL has been consistently shoving throwback uniforms down our throats on a regular, albeit occasional, basis. I don't like it, because it's a form of hype and nostalgia that, personally, does nothing for me. Maybe it's for merchandising purposes; maybe most fans love it; I don't know. To be honest, I think the previous wave of uniforms were the best. I simply didn't care for the throwback designs. I especially hated the Chargers throwback suits. Chris Berman might have been ecstatic about them, but for my money, they don't hold a candle to the ones that replaced them. Prior to throwbackmania, I liked most uniforms the way they were. I never thought "Darn, I wish they'd wear their own rags from time to time."
The other trend I don't care for is the new deep colors everybody has nowadays. The Rams are a great example. They looked great with their bright blue and yellow suits. Now it's as if they want to be just right for black-and-white TV. I don't get it. The Bills looked better prior to their blue jean color suits. I thought their old royal blue digs were much better. I loved the Bucs original helmet. The 49ers used to look sharp with their gold and red outfit. Now they have all these extra lines and shadows, etc. And the Broncos... need I say more? I also don't like all the extra stripes, swooshes, etc. that are common today. The Bills "white" jerseys nowadays are attorcious! These are just some examples. I am all for improvement, but I don't think many of the modern suits are an improvement over the ones of the 1980s and early 90s.
I guess eventually, the ones I liked best will become the throwbacks of the day, so maybe I'm in for a pleasant surprize someday.
I meant "old rags", not "own rags"... sorry.
Loved the podcast, nice work guys.
I don't have any real strong opinions of throwback uniforms but I do like the sense of history they provide, even if it is a little crassly commercial. And I've gotta say, I want to see Denver's vertically striped socks
Re: throwbacks.
Call me old-fashioned, but I would like to see more of the old-style uniforms for some teams.
Buffalo looked great in 2007 when they sported the old look on Monday night (vs. Dallas).
Personally, I'd like the see a 70's retro look for teams like Wash, Pitt, NE, Det, SF, and the Rams.
I dislike a lot of the modern color schemes. But I'm definitely old-school.
Bill M, I agree completely. I did enjoy the first time the NFL used the throwback uniforms. And if they only did it once every 5 years or so - that would be great. And only if all teams did it over a 2 or 3 week period.
