Trivia Blitz podcast #3
We had so much good stuff last week, and have so much planned for the upcoming week, that the podcast announcements are getting pushed to the weekends. The second half of the all-80s team is still on the agenda, but in the mean time we put together a quick trivia blitz.
Read this for a description of the format.
Listen here, subscribe here if you know how, and read this if you don’t. It’s free, of course.

If I give myself half-credit for #16, then I went 15-4-1. I knew the lineman, but was not familiar with the linebacker's first name.
#s 4, 5, 13, and 18 were the four easiest for me and I'm not joking about #18. I got that one real quick.
Amazingly, I drew a blank on #12. That was arguably one of the easiest ones. It was inexcusable that I got #7 wrong.
#s 6 and 19 were the other problem ones for me.
Oh, the final answer would also work with another Hall of Famer from the same team. The first guy in the order would remain. Substitute the "well known" player with another HOFer from the same team and you'll end up with two linebackers from the same team. Actually, the "well known" player also saw some playing time at linebacker.
Both Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune have before and after. Jeopardy's tend to combine unrelated people and objects in bizarre ways though.
This hall of fame running back has produced handguns since the 1800s.
Who is Emmitt Smith and Wesson?
This term for a child born shortly after World War II lost to Joe Montana's 49ers in Superbowl XXIII.
Who is Baby Boomer Esiason?
This hall of fame Steelers wide receiver was a ballet first performed in the Bolshoi theater in 1877.
Who is Lynn Swann Lake?
Okay I'll stop now.
Heh, that'd be fun too though.
4-14-2. I fail again... I really need to pay more attention to defensive players other than linebackers.
I guess the thing about #18 and a few others is that you've either heard of the guy or you haven't. If you have, then the question was pretty easy, because I gave much more specific info on him than I did on some of the less obscure players.
Good spot on the second possible correct answer to question 20, JWL. I have to admit I had never heard of that other guy until I just looked him up. He sure enough is a HoFer, though.
8-10-2
#10- I guessed Ken Norton Jr. Seau. Would that have counted? Jr. v. Junior?
#12- I immediately though Wilber Marshall ('85 Bears), instead of Jim Marshall. Then the most games stat gave Jim away. I have no ties to Minnesota, but for some reason I always remember that Jim Marshall played 282 games. Don't know why.
I like the creative formats you use instead of asking plain old trivia questions.
I got 14 out of 20 with partials on 15, 17, and 18. Only ones I drew complete blanks on were #s 11, 19, and 20. I did have to pause for awhile on the first few until I got the hang of it. When Robin Earl Morrall came to mind on #4 I knew I was way off the track and had to think some more. Had fun - thanks guys!
I also thought Earl Morrall, but Griese came back from injury to start the Super Bowl in '72.I didn't realize Morrall played in 2 SBs with Baltimore though. I always assumed Unitas played in SB III.
Unitas played in III, he just didn't start. As any afficionado of NFL Films can tell you, the old wizard came in late in the game, but he just couldn't fling around the magic bean like young Joe could (although he did throw the game's only TD pass).
I'm back to my success level from the first trivia podcast...only 4 right, and one (#3) I only got after the clues.
I'm hanging my hat on getting #4 on "these guys were both linebackers for the Jaguars", because other than that I was pretty awful, even on ones like #1 that were very gettable. Overall, 7-4-9, giving myself full credit for getting ##3, 11, and 20 off hints.
16-4 for me. I blanked on Winston Hill, Lloyd Burruss and Don Paul, and for some reason I thought the bears "other" HOF LB was Doug Buffone, not Bill George. (probably because Buffone appears on NFL Network's top 10 show).
