Tecmo Super Bowl Game of the Week: Giants @ Cowboys
Posted by Neil Paine on September 17, 2009
Courtesy of Matt Knobbe and the Tecmo Super Bowl Repository, here's your Tecmo Super Bowl Game of the Week for Week 2, featuring the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The highlights:
If you want to watch the whole games, complete with the original 8-bit sound effects, check out the first half and the second half.
(At this point, you're probably asking, "How the heck did they get 2009 rosters into an 18-year-old NES game?" Well, Matt and the other dedicated folks at the Knobbe.org message board have spent a lot of time over the years updating this classic football game, including the introduction of a 32-team ROM a few seasons ago. Sounds complicated, but don't worry, it's easy for you to enjoy the fruits of their labor: just download the 2009 version of the ROM here, get an NES emulator, and play to your heart's content. And check back at Matt's site for roster updates and more Tecmo-related goodness all season long.)

Only thing missing is the 180-ft wide scoreboard.

God was this primitive thing not one of the greatest football video games ever or what?! I seriously fantasized about being able to play with different teams from different years but with this same edition of Tecmo Bowl, bc subsequent sequels never captured the feel of this original (well technically it was the 2nd) classic. Now, thanks to ROMs...fantasy realized. When I discovered their site a year or so ago, i thought i must be dreaming.

Well said, except that I take exception to the use of the word "primitive" to describe TSB...

Am I the only one who gets a broken link upon attempting a download?

Greatest game ever! I used to play this Football game for hours on end and now I can play it all over again with a 2009 roster? Friggin Sweet! Techmo Bowl still sits in my heart as one of the best football games ever, before Madden that is. Well I am off to download it and stuff it into my custom X-Box thanks for the tip.
