What, no Marino? Bledsoe? Haters.
I guess we'll just have to showcase the all-statue team next time...
Actually Marino made NFL Networks list of Top Ten Mobile QBs because of his pocket presence. Someone (Joe Theismen maybe?) compared him to a matador avoiding a bull with a series of subtle and lightning fast movements.
I got winded just watching highlights of Tark evading rushers!!!
Tarkenton was like a real-life version of a Tecmo Super Bowl player, weaving back and forth, going backwards 20, 30 yards if he had to, etc. I don't think anyone else played with that style before or since -- nowadays, your coaches would kill you if you tried some of that stuff. But it obviously worked to great effect for Tarkenton.
Oh, and re: #3, sure enough, here's that Marino video:
I guess you don't have to be a Vick-esque rushing threat to be a "mobile QB".
I always thought Steve Young could have been a Running Back. He had the size, speed and moves. He was just too good at QB to put him at full-time RB.
