Tecmo Super Bowl Game of the Week: Chargers at Broncos
Posted by Neil Paine on November 19, 2009
Courtesy of Matt Knobbe and the Tecmo Super Bowl Repository, here's your Tecmo Super Bowl Game of the Week for Week 11, featuring the San Diego Chargers and the Denver Broncos. The highlights:
(How did we do this? Matt and the other dedicated folks at the Knobbe.org message board have spent a lot of time over the years updating this classic Nintendo football game, including the introduction of a 32-team ROM a few seasons ago. Sounds complicated, but don't worry, it's easy for you to enjoy the fruits of their labor: just get yourself an NES emulator, download the 2009 version of Tecmo here, and play to your heart's content. And be sure to check back at Matt's site for roster updates and more Tecmo-related goodness all season long.)

Knobbe, I understand these rosters aren't up-to-date as of this week, but let's be honest: they aren't even up-to-date as of mid September. Kenny Watson on the Bengals and Jerome Simpson as the #4 over Caldwell?
I downloaded the ROM and wanted to simulate some games myself, but it just feels pointless when things are so far off. I appreciate the work that goes into it (honestly, I do...I got through about 70% of my own TSB ROM back in April before school forced me to put it on halt), but I can't help but feel like it would be pretty easy to ensure some of this stuff is more accurate going into the season.

I have yet to release a preseason rom that is perfect and I hate to tell you I never will. It's always something that is either a misread depth chart or a poorly educated guess or just simply whiffing. Maybe Simpson was #4 on the depth chart to motivate the other guys when I looked. Maybe I'm a Penn St. fan that has a thing for Kenny Watson.
The process is me putting info together as best I can, releasing a beta on my board for error checks, and then finalizing. I corrected any noted errors and after that I don't change anything. As you noted in your 70% completion process, it's a lot of work. When I'm done I'm done and off to do other things.
Let me finish by saying that while I admit to this not being perfect, I will say that on the whole it is quite accurate. It would seem that you are quite capable of changing/editing a rom. Feel free to make changes for yourself or even to re-release the rom in any form on my board or as part of a Mockinreview.
