Feature Watch: League Total Pages

Posted by Neil Paine on January 19, 2010

Have you seen our league totals pages? If not, here's what you can find on them:

In addition to the NFL pages listed above, we also have the same stats for the following non-NFL leagues:

And if you want to look at professional football as a whole, we also have a page for All Leagues Combined.

These pages are useful for seeing how the game has changed over the years -- for instance, the evolution of the passing game in the NFL on a per-team basis:

2004 305 511 3369 23 16
1999 309 541 3396 22 18
1994 312 538 3418 21 17
1989 286 512 3374 21 20
1984 288 512 3294 22 21
1979 251 464 2886 19 21

1969 209 397 2485 20 19
1964 200 388 2431 20 19
1959 155 310 2038 16 18
1954 178 353 2299 18 25
1949 153 328 1932 17 25
1944 82 192 1175 11 21
1939 95 224 1417 10 21
1934 46 146 647 5 19

These stats are also good for cross-era statistical normalization, like the process I used here. So go ahead and check the league total pages out, and let us know what you think either in the comments below, or at bugs@sports-reference.com. Enjoy!
