2012 B-R Daily Updates to Start April 4th

Posted by sean on March 27, 2012

Due to a combination of poor planning on my end and some snafus with data we are provided with, Baseball-Reference will begin updating daily with the Marlins/Cardinals tilt on April 4th.

Updating the site for a new season is always a harrowing experience given the multitude of interconnected moving parts. We are continually simplifying the process, but between the SABR Conference two weeks ago, the NLB launch, a couple of new servers we have coming online and my dawdling we aren't going to be ready to update the Mariners and A's games this week. I apologize to our users who want to see that data ASAP, but we'll make sure we are ready to go next week.

Thank you for your patience.

It is hard to complain about the late start of Baseball Reference website when they do such a comprehensive and excellent job!

Thank you so much for this resource.

  3. Darrel Says:

You're not late, MLB is too early.

I could never understand these series played in Japan. Exhibition after the MLB season ends is fine (barnstorming goes back to at least the days of Babe Ruth). I remember years ago the Mets played their first series in Japan (I forget the opponent). I think the game started about 4AM EST. Two farcical things about this, of course, are that 1) both teams need a few days off because of the travel, and 2) there is still spring training for a few days for the other teams. A truly stupid idea!

Timing is not that bad. Looking forward to next week's data. Thanks for the update btw.

For once, I was going to see if I can get a early start to see what's changed. Oh well!

I appreciate the amount of work and details to get straight with the start of each new season. Take all the time you need.

Is the update the reason the ERA+ & OPS+ numbers are currently down? I was just curious. I love the ERA+ & OPS+ stats! Thanks for all the hard work. Baseball Reference is hands down the best site on the entire internet!
